I am in charge of the work and believe that I should receive some remuneration from the Lot holders. With regard to the amount of such remuneration, I have stated in my letter of 8th instant, I prefer to allow it to be fixed by any competent practical authority.
I have clearly pointed out in my reports on The Praya Reclamation that a very large saving must be effected by pushing on the Praya Works at a maximum rate of progress. It is in fact estimated that a saving of a single year in time would result in a gain of £100,000 to the Lot holders. I am prepared to spare no effort to secure this end. I need hardly point out that the desired result cannot be obtained except by devoting to it time beyond the ordinary official hours of labour, which are fully occupied by my duties as Surveyor General.
